Vladimir Safronov

Deputy Governor – Head of the Bank of Russia Chief Inspection

Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia and Chief Inspectorate at the Bank of Russia.

He was born on 19th July 1955 in Komsomolsk-on-Amur into a public servant’s family.

After he graduated from the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Polytechnic Institute in 1977, he worked for the Far East Department of Civil Aviation, the party authority of the Kamchatka region, the Institute of Economic Forecasting at the Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation, and the Analytical Centre, the Russian Federation’s Federation Council for the Federal Assembly.

In 1995–1996, he became deputy head of the Department for Research and Forecasting, deputy head of the Economics Department of the Main Department of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, in Moscow.

From 1996–2007 he worked at various posts in the Department of Prudential Banking Supervision, as deputy director of the Department of Banking Regulations and Controls and deputy director of the Department of Banking Regulations and Supervision.

Since February 2007, he has been Chief Inspector for credit institutions.

In October 2012 he was appointed deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, and head of Inspections for credit organizations.

He has a PhD in economic sciences, is an honored economist of the Russian Federation and was awarded the Certificate of Merit of the Bank of Russia with a medal “For faultless service at the Bank of Russia”, and the honorary title “High Achiever at the Bank of Russia.”

He is married, with one daughter.
