Georgy Poltavchenko

Governor of St. Petersburg

Georgy Poltavchenko was born on February 23, 1953 in the family of a navy sailor in Baku.

In 1976, graduated from Leningrad Institute of Aviation Instruments Making (mechanical engineer on aerospace medical instruments).

1976, engineer at the defence plant NPO “Leninets”.

1978, Instructor of the Nevsky District Komsomol Committee.

1979–1994, service in the KGB (Head of Vyborg Town UKGB Division for Leningrad Region and St. Petersburg).

1994–1999, Head of the Federal Tax Police Administration for St. Petersburg, Lieutenant-General of Tax Police.

1999–2000, Plenipotentiary Representative of President of the Russian Federation in Leningrad Region.

2000–2011, Plenipotentiary Representative of President of the Russian Federation in the Central Federal District.

31 August 2011. Confirmed in the office of the Governor of St. Petersburg.

Awarded with the Order “Of Merit for the Fatherland” of the IV degree (2003), the Order “Of Merit for the Fatherland” of the III degree (2008) and other governmental awards.

Married and has a son.
