Mikhail Alekseev was born in Moscow on January 4, 1964. He graduated with honours from the Moscow Finance Institute (now the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation) in 1986. He holds a Ph.D. in economics.
Alekseev has been working in finance since 1989, when he started his career at the Ministry of Finance of the USSR. Since then he has held several positions from senior expert to Deputy Head of the General Directorate of the Ministry of Finance of the USSR. In 1992, Mr. Alekseev was appointed to the Board of Directors of Mezhkombank. In 1995, he was appointed Deputy Chairman in Uneximbank. From 1999 to 2006, Mr. Alekseev served as Senior Vice President and Deputy Chairman responsible for Retail Operations for SME clients, Strategic Development & Operations and IT at Rosbank. From 2006 to 2008, he served as Chairman of the Board and President of Rosprombank. Since 2008, Mikhail Alekseev has served as Chairman of the Management Board of UniCredit Bank (Russia).
Mikhail Alekseev is a Member of the Board of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) and a Member of the Commission on Banks and Banking of the RSPP.
